Banksy
Biography
“Banksy” is the pseudonym for a contemporary street artist whose identity remains unknown. It is believed he was born in Bristol, England, around 1974. His work is often provocative stenciled “Guerilla” street art with cultural criticism with political and social agendas.
In the late 1990s worldwide fame transformed his artwork from acts of vandalism to sought-after high art pieces. Among the artist’s most famous stunts include his shredded painting: When a painting by Banksy was sold at auction for $1.4 million in 2018, a mechanism was triggered to cause the artwork to partially destroy itself, resulting in a new piece titled Love in the Bin (2018).
Banksy rejects the traditional commercial art world and is not officially represented by any gallery or institution. His website pestcontroloffice.com manages authentication of artwork.
Born: Presumed 1970
