Nicholas Roes: Remain Present Opens September 24 at International Art Acquisitions

International Art Acquisitions in Rochester, New York, is pleased to present Remain Present, a new exhibition of contemporary paintings by American artist Nicholas Roes, on view September 25 through October 31, 2026. The exhibition opens Thursday, September 24, from 4:30–7:30 PM, with the artist in attendance.
Remain Present considers the physical act of painting and the traces an artist leaves behind. Through movement, texture, layered material, and assertive brushwork, Roes allows the process of making to remain visible within each finished work. At a moment when images can be generated and reproduced with increasing ease, the exhibition returns attention to painting as a direct encounter between artist and material.
Born in Lowville, New York, in 1992, Nicholas Roes was raised on his family’s farm near the Adirondacks and earned his BA from Gordon College in Massachusetts in 2015. His contemporary abstract paintings draw upon his agricultural upbringing, experience as an educator, and ongoing interest in the relationship between the natural and built environment. Roes was a Selected Artist in the 69th Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery in 2025 and exhibits throughout New York and New England.
